70 years of angle grinders

Special edition: 70 years of FLEX angle grinders

  • Two special models to mark the anniversary: The handy L 1070 125 and the even more powerful L 2270 230

  • Both compact, yet powerful

  • Handy, robust and durable thanks to a brushless motor

Steinheim, November 2024 - "The FLEX", the namesake of an entire genre of tools, is 70 years old. And manufacturer FLEX is launching two special edition models to mark the anniversary: The L 1070 125 with 1,100 watts and the L 2270 230 with 2,200 watts.

What began in 1954 with the DL 9 developed into the namesake of an entire genre of tools: The "flexible shaft", which acts as an intermediate piece connecting the drive and the tool, is the origin of the company brand FLEX and became the generic term for the angle grinder. Angle grinders - also known as cut-off grinders due to their function - can grind, cut and slice metal, stone, concrete, wood or even tiles at a high number of revolutions per minute. Even concrete can be cut with a diamond cutting disc.

Strong by tradition, success through innovation

In the early days of the company's history, which was founded in 1922 under the name “Ackermann + Schmitt” - this was the starting point for numerous other product ideas that contributed to the company’s rapid growth. With the first high-speed angle grinder, the DL 9, FLEX finally made industrial history in 1954. This key product for the modern brand history was to be followed by many more. Through close dialogue with the trade and decades of experience, FLEX is constantly coming up with new innovative solutions for ergonomic and economical working.

L 1070 125 and L 2270 230 special edition

This also applies to the two new angle grinders L 1070 125 and L 2270 230, which FLEX is launching on the market as a special edition to mark its 70th anniversary at a particularly attractive price and in a different colour design.

L 1070 125 – small and streamlined

The L 1070 125, the smaller and more streamlined of this angle grinder duo, is a completely new development that is even more powerful than its predecessor model, yet at the same time is handier and more streamlined with a gripping circumference of just 185 mm. “The L 1070 125 is a very handy and at the same time powerful tool that’s well suited to quick cutting jobs, light sanding work, drilling into tiles or notching. Its compact design and light weight of just 2.0 kg makes the L 1070 125 ideally suited to cutting profiles and solid materials to length, bending screws and nails, cutting threaded rods and cable ducts to length and deburring metal parts. The L 1070 125 is also ideal for light sanding work such as in car body construction or for removing rust from metal surfaces,” says Sigmar Wagenknecht, Product Manager at FLEX-Elektrowerkzeuge GmbH in summarizing the tool’s most important areas of application.

Equipped with soft start and restart protection, the "small powerful one" impresses with its safety and convenience. The 125 mm disc guard can be adjusted without tools thanks to a practical clamping lever, while the lockable On/Off slide switch and the 4-metre cable ensure flexibility and easy handling. In addition, an optional side handle (M10) ensures even better ergonomics.

L 2270 230 – the big brother

With its powerful 2200 watt motor, the “big brother” L 2270 230 delivers the necessary power for demanding jobs. With a cutting depth of up to 6.5 cm, it is particularly suitable for cutting and separating reinforcing steel and profiles for example. It is also popular in gardening and landscaping for cutting stones, ideally in combination with a dust extractor that is available as an optional accessory.

The 230 mm disc guard of the L 2270 230 can be adjusted quickly and without tools thanks to the clamping lever, and the spindle stop also enables effortless tool changes. With a weight of 5.8 kg, a lockable On/Off switch and an ergonomic side handle (M14), this grinder also allows comfortable handling. The 4-metre cable provides sufficient freedom of movement when working.

Soft start for more safety and comfort

Both angle grinders have a soft start, which makes the use of both tools even more comfortable and safe. This soft start - not an obvious feature in this class of tool - prevents the otherwise possible jerking or slipping during start-up.

“70 years of FLEX angle grinders” special edition

Both special edition angle grinders L 1070 125 and L 2270 230 are now available from dealers in high-quality edition packaging. The special edition price for the L 1070 125 is 70 Euros plus VAT, and the L 2270 230 is available for 120 Euros plus VAT.
